Here I am in Aleppo, located in northern Syria, sitting on the walls of the Citadel, a huge and very impressive-looking fortress that dominates the city. Supposedly, it was only ever taken once, and then by treachery, not assault. Aleppo is also famous for having been the headquarters of one T.E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") during World War I, when his Arab army defeated the Turks and drove them out of Syria.
The lure of Aleppo - A good overview of the city, topped by an absolutely stunning shot of the Citadel.
ALEPPO (HALAB) - Another good guide.
Souks - A nice tour of the famous souk (marketplace) of Aleppo.
Next stop (and last one in the Middle East): Turkey!
